Eston Crowder, 73, of Kingman died at his home Friday afternoon. He had been ill for one year. Mr. Crowder was a mechanic all his life. He last worked for Energy Coal Co. at Steamboat Springs, Colorado, retiring in September 1972. Prior to that he worked for Morgan Coal Co. and Indiana State Highway. He was a member of United Mine Workers. He attended Rabb and Cates schools. He moved to Kingman in 1924 and lived the rest of his life there, except for 9 years while he worked at Steamboat. Mr. Crowder was born Jan 19, 1907 in Fulton Twp in Fountain County, a son of Elmer and Artie Wallace Crowder. He was married to Mary Massey in May 1931. She preceded him in death Dec 15, 1978. He then married Genevieve Marsh Sept 6, 1980. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Don Crowder of Kingman and Bill Crowder of Paso Robles, California; a stepson, James Marsh of Witchita, KS; two brothers, Harold of Kokomo and Freeman of Veedersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Irene) Massey of Rt. 2, Kingman and Mrs. Cliff (Mildred) Lyons of Lafayette; four grandchildren and two greats. He was preceded in death by an infant son and four brothers. Services are at 2 p.m. Monday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home at Covington. Burial will be in Kingman Fraternal Cemetery. Eston Crowder of Kingman, age 73, died Friday afternoon, January 16, at his home. He was born in Fulton Township, Fountain County, January 19, 1907, the son of Elmer and Artie Wallace Crowder. In May of 1931, he married Mary Massey, who died December 15, 1978. September 6, 1980, he married Genevieve Marsh, who survives.
Crowder was employed as a mechanic with the Indiana Highway Department, Morgan Coal Company and Energy Coal Company, retiring in July of 1972. He was a member of the United Mine Workers.
Also surviving are two sons, Don of Kingman and Bill of Paso Robles, California; a stepson, James Marsh of Wellington, Kansas; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Massey of RR 2, Kingman, and Mrs. Mildred Lyons of Lafayette; two brothers, Harold of Kokomo and Freeman of Veedersburg; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with burial in Kingman Fraternal Cemetery. – thanks to S
